Preview | Ultra Music Festival 2011 | Phase Two

EDM lovers unite! As promised, we are proud to present our preview for the newly released Ultra Music Festival Phase 2 line-up.

Not only are we excited to see the announcement of some very fine Trance talent added to the roster, but we’re also getting a taste of what to expect for ASOT500, which will be held at Ultra on Sunday, March 27th. And because we know that our readers love all genres of electronic dance music just as much as we do, we decided to highlight several acts from across the EDM spectrum that are sure to make this weekend one to remember.

Rumor has it that a 3rd phase with many more artists to be announced will be released in the coming weeks. You can be sure that we’ll keep a vigilant eye for any future UMF news and keep you updated.

Alex M.O.R.P.H.
Label: Armada Music
Alex M.O.R.P.H. is not only one of Germany’s most prominent Trance DJs & producers, but he has grown to a stand-out personality in the global dance music business. With a massive production list and an amount of almost 100 remixes, Mr. M.O.R.P.H. is one of the most in demand collaborators in trance music today. In late 2010, Alex saw the release of a full on remix album “Hands on Armada” comprised entirely of the best Armada tracks from years passed.

Label: Kontor
ATB is without a doubt, one of the few modern trance legends. He has been at the top of the trance heap for well over a decade. He’s consistently in the top 10 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll. From his epic beginnings with Movin Melodies to his massively popular The DJ-In The Mix compilations, and everything in between, ATB proves year after year why he’s one of the most dominant forces in Trance music today.

Andy C
Drum & Bass
Label: Ram Records
Ranked 61 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 says something, but ranked 61 as a d&b act says quite a bit more. For a DJ poll that is predominantly Trance and House, to be ranked so high means you are without question at the top of you genre. Andy C will team up with MC Q for Ultra. If you haven’t yet witnessed the magic that occurs when live EDM goes toe to toe with a brilliant hype man, get ready to change how you view a live performance. There’s just nothing like it.

Armin van Buuren
Label: Armada Music
While we had already previewed Armin in our Phase 1 release, it is worth mentioning him yet again. Why? Because he’s Armin, and also because he’s playing both Saturday on the main stage at Ultra and on Sunday for ASOT500. What could be better than back-to-back Armin van Buuren? Yes, that was a rhetorical question….

Label: To Be Announced…
Avicii, aka Tim Berg, at age 21 has taken the dance music industry by storm. In 2010, he made a huge statement with is smash hits “Bromance”, and “My Feelings for You”. Hanging out nicely at #39 on DJ Mag’s Top 100, there is no direction but forward for this Swedish youngling. It seems Sweden is the breeding capitol of the world right now for Electro House producers. Having been in the scene for just a few years now, Dada Life really picked up steam with their 2009 release of “Let’s Get Bleeped Tonight”, and 2010’s “Unleash the F***ing Data”. Expect big tracks from this duo who are slotted to be playing both Friday and Sunday!

Based now in Brooklyn, Dieselboy is the most in-demand American d&b DJ on the international club, rave and festival circuits including the United Kingdom (home of d&b), Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and North and South Americas. Few d&b artists can claim as hardcore a global cult following as Dieselboy.

Erick Morillo
Label: Subliminal Records
There really is very little in the world of music and entertainment that Erick Morillo hasn’t turned his hand to. He’s a platinum-selling artist, he’s topped the charts worldwide as the producer behind Reel 2 Real’s hit “I Like To Move It” (used in both Madagascar movies, reaching millions of viewers worldwide and covered by Will I Am in Madagascar 2) and he’s been responsible for a bewildering array of dance-floor tracks including ‘Reach’, ‘Believe’, ‘Do What You Want’ and ‘I Feel Love’ – under pseudonyms including Ministers De La Funk, The Dronez (with Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero and Jose Nunez) and Li’l Mo Ying Yang. He’s remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to Basement Jaxx and continues to run the legendary Subliminal Records house music empire.

Fedde le Grand
Label: Flamingo Recordings
2009/2010 have been truly phenomenal years for Dutch artist Fedde le Grand. With a glittering career that includes worldwide number ones, packed arenas, throbbing dance floors, A-list collaborations, a raft of international awards and a debut artist album ‘Output’ that hit over 60 countries worldwide, it’s been a few short years that have cemented his reputation as one of the most forward-thinking, in-demand, creative forces in global music.

Gareth Emery

Gareth Emery is one of electronic music’s most influential and innovative DJ producers, voted no.7 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll making him the UK’s highest ranked DJ, and one of the youngest DJs ever to crack the top ten. In 2010, he released his debut artist album ‘Northern Lights’ on his own label Garuda to stunning reactions from fans and critics alike, hitting no.1 on the US iTunes dance chart within hours of release.

Jungle/Drum & Bass
Label: Metalheadz
Goldie is a true Jungle/d&b Pioneer. He has been hard at work producing music and paving the way for modern d&b since the early 90’s! As many purists know, Goldie is, simply put, legendary. An exhibition artist, actor, author and musical innovator, this Brit has his hand in and excels at pretty much everything.

Hernan Cattaneo
Progressive/Tech House

Hernan Cattaneo’s twenty-year journey through music shows no sign of slowing down right now. In fact, it’s anything but. From Bahrain to Belfast, Singapore to San Diego, Hernan’s love labored travels know no bounds in their trans-continental reach with the Argentinean on a round-the-clock mission to spread his love for electronic music. Constantly absorbing new sounds, cultures and influences from the most varied outposts possible, Hernan bleeds them into as many projects as he can – be they production work, his masterpiece mix CDs, his radio shows or forthcoming music label.

Jerome Isma AE
Label: Jee Productions
Hailing from Munich, Jerome Isma-Ae is one of the highest-selling, most successful Prog House DJ/producers of the last 3 years. He is reinventing and designing the sounds since the early years of EDM. Building, combining, releasing and holding on to a continuously sharp sound, fit for both timelessness and the current demands of the dance floor society. With the characteristic Isma-Ae sound on his side, requested and praised by many, he’s got the best weapon there is: the ability to stand out.

Electronic/Cosmic Disco
Label: Ultra Records
After getting his break several years ago with “Steppin’ Out” Kaskade made a permanent impression in the dance community in 2008 with several breakthrough singles. Since then his tastes have shifted more towards a commercial/pop style collaborating with and remixing huge names such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timerlake, & Britney Spears. Despite his commercial success, Kaskade still knows all too well how to shake a dance floor and treats his festival fans to nothing less than pure Kaskade sound of years past. “but nothing a lil’ house music can’t fix”

Marcus Schossow
Label: Spinnin/Armada
Schossow is a very rare individual. He shines at whatever he throws his hand to, and whether that’s performing to thousands or producing for the masses – he’s on a mission to reinvent dance music, and he’s off to a flying start! With Tone Diary, Marcus’ acclaimed radio show; the sound of Schossow travels even further. Setting the airwaves ablaze, he reaches those not lucky enough to have caught him live yet and reminds those who have of why they’ll have to check him out again!

Label: Little Idiot
Moby is one of the few true American talents in the electronic world today. His range and style is as unique as it is unclassifiable. Coming up on almost 3 decades in the music business, Moby’s music has graced virtually every genre from Rock, Pop, Ambient, to House. To see him live, one should expect the unexpected.

Sander Van Doorn
Tech-Trance/Techno/Trance/Minimal/SVD Style!
Label: Doorn Records
First there were Heineken and Edam, then came Sander van Doorn. The Dutch musical genius may not be as mature as his predecessors but he’s certainly made as much of a global impact in his comparatively short career. As Sander approaches the most exciting time of his career and having already achieved so much in a relatively short period of time, it’s easy to see where this man is heading – Number 1!

Label: emFire Music
DJ/producer/remixer Sasha is recognized as one of the worlds’ most innovative icons of the electronic genre. He propels listeners into the future of electronic music by constructing innovative and forward-thinking concept albums (Airdrawndagger, Involver) and live events (Delta Heavy, Fundacion) that blur the boundaries between artist and DJ. Refusing to limit himself to DJ work alone, Sasha has continually explored his various interests as an adept remixer, songwriter, and producer. He established himself as a formidable, in-demand remixer by reconstructing tracks from an incredible array of artists such as Depeche Mode, Madonna, Seal, UNKLE, The Chemical Brothers, BT, Thom Yorke, and Orbital.

Label: Underworldlive
Underworld is a band that needs no introduction. If you’re reading this, you almost certainly know the track Born Slippy, and by virtue of that are an Underworld fan. They’ve never been afraid to carve their own path and move in seemingly disjointed directions throughout their 30-year career. But as time has shown, everything they touch turns to gold.
