After a week of rain over the city that never sleeps, Armin Van Buuren touched down Friday afternoon in the Big Apple, and so did the sun. Judgement Day indeed, and if the world were to end on Saturday, those in attendance on Friday night at The Roseland Ballroom would have most certainly not seem to mind. The worlds number one DJ, as per the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Poll, was joined on Friday night by Audien, Zack Roth and Blake Jarrell for his first city gig since last years Electric Zoo Festival. The first two hours of the extended four hour set were broadcast live on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
Blake Jarrell warmed up the crowd with a remix of Sander Van Doorn’s newest release KoKo, his new Mashup of Axwell’s “Heart Is King” vs REM’s “Losing My Religion”, his take on Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars”, and a new find, Diddy Featuring Skylar Gray “Coming Home” vs Avicii’s new dance-floor destroyer, “Penguin”. Jarrell, playing until just about fifteen past midnight, has opened for Van Buuren plenty of times in New York City as well as the rest of his USA tour.
Armin Van Buuren opened his four hour set with Orjan Nilsen’s new track, “The Mule” which features the vocal’s “Welcome Home” then proceed to play new remixes from his latest studio release “Mirage” such as collaboration with Nadia Ali “Feels So Good”, tracks alongside BT and Ferry Corsten “These Silent Hearts” and “Minack”, his latest singles with Christian Burns “This Light Between Us” and vocal dance floor anthem “Drowning”. Sticking to his roots, by popular demand, his classic “Shivers” was played for New York before a monstrous close with Coldplay’s “The Scientist” vs. Simon Patterson’s “Miss You” with a crowd pleasing encore of “In and Out Of Love” vs “On Off” by Cirez D in a mashup by none other than Van Buuren himself. Playing Gaia 2009 Gaia favorite “Tuvan” as well as 2010′s dedication to the Love Parade which Van Buuren recorded alongside Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk, “Remember Love”. A set-list from the evening’s event has been provided below.
Responsible for the evenings festivities, Made Event, are also the masterminds behind the city’s annual Electric Zoo Festival. Tickets started at $75 and were still available for $85 at the venue Friday evening. Many fans hoped with the rise in ticket prices since Armin’s last New York City appearance, the crowd may have been a little less, this however seemed to have not been the case. Van Buuren will now continue his tour in Montreal Canada as well as heading to Washington DC on Thursday. Fans of Van Buuren hailing from New York City are in hopes Armin Only may still make its way to NYC before the years close. How’s that for the world’s #1?
