Right there, at the edge of uplifting trance, deep-hitting bass and quality tech-trance, lies the realm of Subculture Recordings. The record label of John O’Callaghan, launched in 2010, has built a steady reputation, home to some of the industry’s most promising producer talents and celebrated names. Highlighting its story of success with the annual chapter of his beloved ‘Subculture’ compilation, John O’Callaghan now proudly presents ‘Subculture 2013’!
Hi John, How was your Holiday and New Year, Where did you celebrate?
John: I was in Argentina for a massive NYE show which was one of the best gigs of the year. A very special place !
On Jan 18th, Subculture 2013 is set for release. What can the listener expect this time around?
John: We have a double cd of the best trance of the last couple of months- and upcoming releases! Also some cool exclusives too
As a sneak peak for 2013, when compiling this, were you trying to set a tone and or goal for future productions?
John: Well not really but of course uplifting trance is always the theme, with some tech trance productions lined up too. Subculture has some great releases for 2013.
Featuring a wide variety of melodic and hard techy tracks, what process did you go through in picking the artists for the album? What were you looking for, that they brought to the table?
John: A process, as simple as… what are the best tracks – make a folder..say 100 tracks…cut to 50…cut to 30 – see how they fit and maybe sub one for the other to make a better flow on the cd. Of course more banging at the end of each mix so i also needed cool startup tracks like “Bella Monaco”
What’s next for you?
John: San Francisco this weekend and Philly. cant wait ! Releases wise, i think my new single “Breathe” with Full Tilt will be out in Feb.
If this compilation was just introduced to a newcomer, what three words would you tell them that best describes it?
John: The real sound of uplifting trance in 2013.
Where in the world are you right now? And what are you doing?
John: At home on my new retina macbook answering about 8 interviews, drinking lots of coffee!
2013 looks promising for the trance genre with loads of new producers. Who would you like to work with in the near feature?
John: Sneijder, Darren Porter and Tomas Heredia.
Any last words for your fans and the United States Trance Movement
John: Yes, guys thanks for all the support and staying strong with the sound of trance that I love and hopefully continues long into the future! Cheers!
