John 00 Fleming is an artist who has achieved international success in a career spanning over 20 years without dishonouring his musical essence or fans. With over 10 million album sales and 30 produced mix compilations, John’s a proven musical pioneer whose essence lies in what his fans call, ‘the J00F sound’. The J00F sound is as unpretentious as the artist, and is best described as deep and textured progressively edged trance, in an electronic dance music style that is an antithesis to what is normally produced within the genre.
Hi John, How is everything? How has 2013 treated you thus far?
John: I’m exhausted. Usually the early part of 2013 gives DJ’s a little downtime after the craziness of New Years, but not for me. I’ve been nonstop touring since the start of the year, travelling around the world one and a half times with stops in seven different countries.
March 4th, 2013 the trance community will see the release of your second artist album One Hundred Ten WKO. What can the listeners expect?
John: Something very different. My debut album, Nine Lives, was the album I promised my fans for over a decade. One Hundred Ten WKO is the album that I promised myself. You’ll be hearing me truly express myself as an artist. After all, isn’t that what an artist album should be about?
Can you explain the meaning behind the album title?
John: I’ve always been fascinated with astronomy. When new stars or universes are discovered they assign them a code name until they’re given an official title. If I discovered a star, I’d name it One Hundred Ten WKO.
What is your take on this “Trouse” Trance 2.0 phase? Let it all out!
John: For some reason people seem to think I’m a purist that’s against anything commercial. I just get a little frustrated when the more serious side of Trance gets neglected, and then proceed to mumble along in a long-winded blog!
“Trouse” is just a fun, new, musical fad. When I first started out in clubland I went through phases of following new trends, and this became my gateway into something more serious. Fads are exactly what they say on the tin. It’s a fad, and it won’t last long. Producers that jumped on the “Trouse” train are already seeing the steam is running out. They’re just waiting for the next big thing to come along and they’ll proceed to follow that.
If One Hundred Ten WKO was introduced to a first time listener, what three words would you tell them best describes it?
John: The JOOF sound.
What is next for you in 2013!
John: JOOF Music Group will be born in 2013. I mentioned this earlier in the year and the forum wizards were quick to translate it into me trying to save Trance. I’m not. I’m saving artists and labels that were ready to quit. My partners at Bonzia and I are helping a group of talented producers, DJ’s and labels by using our previously built infrastructure. We already have some very well established names in the family.
Can you tell us something we are the first to know?
John: I’ve collected every single boarding pass since my first flight as a kid. I have hundreds of the damn things in numerous boxes. I can delve deep, grab one, and it will bring back a memory and tell a story. Why? I have no idea!! It’s the only thing that I collect in my life.
What are your current top 5 favorite tracks?
John: I never make top 5 lists. They change constantly every day when I listen to new tracks.
Any last words for your fans and our readers?
John: Thank you everyone for your constant support. Without you guys and girls my wonderful life working with music would not be possible.
