American DJ’s Part 2

Filo & Peri ( Bronx, NY )

Consider their global chart success and you begin to gain the sense of scale New York based production team Filo & Peri are achieving. Having conquered the number one spot on the Billboard dance chart, plus an entry into the UK National Top 40, they continue to surprise to the upside. To think this is only the beginning for one of America’s top trance producers makes for a very exciting time in their lives. To top things off, the recent release of their debut album “Nightplay” has cemented their status as heavy hitters with an unparalleled 14/16 tracks entering the Beatport trance top 100 sales chart.

“The creation of our album was a winding journey full of obstacles to overcome,” says Bo. We were almost done with the first version of ‘Nightplay’ a year and half ago. During the final stages our entire studio burned down and we lost all of our work – it was devastating.” Domenick chimes in, “we were out of commission for six months until things could be re-built. During this I was diagnosed with a rare tumor on my voice box that had to be surgically removed. The case was published in many medical journals but thankfully everything went ok!” “We had to stay positive,” Bo interjects “and work our way back – day in and out. Everything happens for a reason and this twist of fate motivated us to create another even better album. There’s something here for everyone; from mainstream listeners to the hardcore clubbers. The emotions are very real – this is who we are.” Dom finishes things off, “we covered a lot of ground and explored many sounds. A lot of our success comes from thinking outside the box – taking risks with new ideas and combining them with something accessable. You can listen to the songs at home, and rock them in the club too, which is very important to us. Ultimately, this is how the dance scene will grow and continue to attract new listeners.”

Outside the studio Filo & Peri have been conducting business as usual, playing in the best nightclubs across the world. From Amnesia in Ibiza, to the far reaches of Luxy in Taiwan, and back in their home country at the Nocturnal Festival in L.A., their blend of euphoric trance, driving progressive house, and exclusive edits and mashups is winning them an international army of fans. Whether it’s banging beats or soaring vocals, nobody stands still when they take control of the dance floor. Not even Paul van Dyk, who is going to play numerous gigs with the guys in 2010.

“When we DJ its all about being a unique experience – we play many unique tracks that other DJ’s don’t play. Too many artists play it safe but our fans come to see us because they know they will get something special and different,” explains Domenick. “I think the best way to describe our DJ style is, ‘prime time.’ We are both high energy individuals with a unique taste that comes through in our sets.” “Whether it’s the moment we turn off the music to hear 50,000 people singing back our songs, or whether it’s the massive build up that blows the roof off the event – that is what people come to see us for,” concludes Bo.

It is obvious that Filo & Peri have come a long way from their humble beginnings. Having built up a solid catalog of productions throughout the years on the biggest labels around the world, Filo & Peri are equally respected by the top players in the industry. With unending support from Paul van Dyk, DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, and Armin van Buuren, who recently invited the boys to play along side him for the ASOT 450 celebration in NYC, Filo & Peri are bringing American dance music to the forefront of the dance scene.

I currently live in San Diego, California. I have lived in Southern CA most of my life except for the 3 years I spent in Arizona.

I began DJing in 2007. I started out using vinyl and Technics turntables. About a year later I puchased some Pioneer CDJ 400s and have been using those ever since. I mainly play Trance music but I have played Breaks and House as well.

Mike Saint-Jules ( NewYork, NY )

Born on August 12th, 1983, it was Mike’s destiny to be a part of the musical enviorment. Mike has always been listening to music ever since he was but an infant. Even listening to his Father’s old record collection. Gradually listening to the old classics like The Commodores, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Santana, Patti LaBelle etc.

It wasn’t much of anything to Mike until a warm, sunny day in 2002. It was then that Mike would finally see the music he has been searching for. Mike was just eating his normal lunch in front of the kitchen TV. Going through channels, he finally ended up on MTV. The show MTV’s “True Life: I’m A Clubber” was on. That was the day that Mike decided to go full on into dance music and going on to music production. In 2004, the process began when he started music production and purchased DJ equipment to develop the hidden skills from within.

The process:

In 2008, Mike released his first solo production called, “Sunlit Clouds” under Ferry Corsten’s label, Flashover Recordings (Levare). Since then, Mike has remixed artists such as Ronski Speed, Rapid Eye, Filo & Peri, & Noel Sanger to a name a few. The biggest remix being Ferry Corsten’s Twice In A Blue Moon production. He has also worked on a number of collaborations with artists such as Breakfast and worked on recent production with the rising stars, Filo & Peri for their artist album, “Nightplay”.

Today:

In 2010, Mike continues to focus on slowly bringing out solid, fresh original productions and amazing remixes out to the masses with his solo productions. Now teaming up with Destination X to from the group, “Saint X”, Mike looks to take on the scene by force!

Rory James ( Brooklyn, New York )
Music speaks louder than words. It is easier to understand Rory James by the feelings that get expressed through his music. Inspired mainly by 80’s electronica, along with the trancemasters M.I.K.E., Chris Cowie, and Oliver Lieb, Rory has obtained a knowledge high enough to pump out huge tunes while managing to keep distinctiveness not by choice.

After a short time in the studio, Rory’s tunes have already seen the light of day and the dark of club with releases on Metallic Recordings, Conspiracy Recordings, and soon to be Vaccine Records. His tunes have reached the music arsenals of names such as M.I.K.E. Tom Colontonio, Mark Andrez, Activa, Jon O’Bir, Frase, Suzy Solar, John Askew, Eddie Halliwel, Alex M.O.R.P.H, Aly & Fila, and Tiesto just to name a few, and the list will inevitably expand even further.

If you get a chance to experience Rory behind the decks, expect nothing but the real contents – emotional melodies, driving hi hats, rolling basslines, atmospheric pads, and thumpin kicks. The real trance. The stuff that raises the hair on every centimeter of the body, the uplifting emotional epicness that will leave the listener in a perfect state.

Fantastic web site. I acquired a whole lot of very good knowledge. I?ve been preserving an eye on this engineering for awhile. It?s fascinating the way it retains shifting, nevertheless some of the core elements remain the same.
